Just happy to be hereIt was tough giving up the old not-having-a-blog, but I am really excited to be joining the Northside Lounge team. I want all the fans to know that coming to the Northside lounge wasn't about the money. I wanted to come here to be part of a great organization that has a real commitment to win, but mostly I wanted to be closer to my family. Plus, Dennis is a guy I really admire. I have always wanted to write for his blog, and now I am going to get the chance. I am just going to try to fit in, give 110%, and be an example to the younger writers. In all seriousness, I do hope to be able to contribute something worthwhile here. There are a ton of people covering our Cubs well so I may look for some non-Cubs topics to write about. In the meantime, my quick opinion on the Cruz/Hillenbrand trade is a definite no. Hillenbrand's statistical record never showed much promise until he managed a passable .330/.459 OBP/SLG last year for the Sox. He has followed that up with a hot month of April(.381/.495). Even charitably allowing that he may have established a new level of performance, he is still at best than an average major league third baseman. I don't see giving up a young pitcher with a live arm and some moderate major league sucess for an easily replaceable player. What's worse, I am sure Baker would use him to replace Bellhorn and not the black hole in the making that is Grudzielanek. Finally, the trump arguement is an extension of the Beane Rule- if Billy Beane or one of his enfant terrible proteges calls you, HANG UP! : | |
